Yesterday we headed 2 hours north to Adlumani and had a productive day teaching ladies to hand sew dresses for their little girls. About 100 ladles came - about twice as many as we were expecting.
More on that later.
Then Pastor Patrick made a major announcement.
I was not at all prepared for it. Patrick said the church had decided to plant 100 fruit trees in honor of my mom who passed away on 1/24/2025.
100 fruit trees!
In honor of my mom! When people picked fruit from the trees, they would remember the fruit my mom, VIrginia, was continuing to have in Adjumani.
Imagine that!
My mom had never been to Uganda.
I don’t think she had ever been out of the USA.
But he talked about how my mom had a major impact on their community
Over the years I had mentioned to the ladies my mom had taught me to sew and in turn, I was able to teach the ladies of their community to sew.
One of the things I had whispered to my mom in her last weeks was that she would see so many Ugandans in heaven; such a sweet sentiment.
We went outside and the women and I planted 8 trees near the church. The ladies will be responsible for watering the 8 trees we planted now in the dry season when temperatures top 100 degrees. Water will be carried in jerry cans until the rainy season.
The other 92 trees will be planted on the community farm.
I cried off and on the rest of the day.
I am humbled.
