Your giving made Margaret Acomo an entrepreneur!

Margaret Acomo exemplifies the resilience of Ugandan women. Even in hard times, God and her never-stop work ethic are the foundation of amazing strength.

But her life took an unexpected turn for the better when she attended a sewing class at church.

A sewing class made possible by the generosity of so many folks like you!

Little did Margaret know that a simple sewing training session would be the catalyst for a profound advancement in her life. The project? A small purse to be finished at home. Margaret not only completed the purse with excellence but also caught my eye (Yvonne). I saw potential in this eager learner.

Margaret showed up a few days later with her purse completed excellently, and she joined the already full sewing class. The class opened doors Margaret never imagined possible.

On Yvonne’s next visit, Margaret received a surprise call inviting her to a sewing training at our house. It was there that Margaret’s natural talent shone through. After quickly mastering the sewing machine, I asked her to help teach the class. Margaret’s enthusiastic “Yes Mommy!” marked the beginning of her journey as a sewing instructor.

Margaret’s life before this opportunity was filled with hardship. “I was really in a hard place at that time, I had no money, a single mother, and my husband left me alone. It was a really tough time for me.”

Margaret began making money with her newfound ability. She remembers the moment vividly: “I was so overjoyed I went outside, knelt on the road amazed. I didn’t even know that God would help such a woman as me. That was the starting point of my new life!”

The impact was immediate and tangible. “That day I went straight to the market and bought posho and beans and food for my children. Life started changing for me that day, it was a miracle!” Margaret exclaims.

Today, Margaret’s transformation continues to ripple outward. Through Empowering Ugandans, she now trains other women in various villages and cities. Her skills have expanded beyond sewing dresses, purses, and bags—she now makes soap as well.

“I am confident now. I never dreamed it was possible,” Margaret says with pride. “The people who know me from before are astounded! This is the way God is giving me money to support my family.”

Margaret’s story echoes that of many others helped by Empowering Ugandans donors.

For Margaret, the change goes beyond financial stability. “Before, I was never able to talk boldly in front of people. It is like I wasn’t even a human being. My children used to walk barefooted, but I am able to buy them shoes now.”

Margaret’s gratitude shines through in her desire to pay it forward: “I am now helping many other women who were like me. I tell them that God is close and cares. God has given me this ability.”

Stories like Margaret’s highlight the transformative power of education, support, and opportunity through your giving. They remind us that with the right tools and encouragement, individuals can overcome tremendous obstacles and build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.

Through your giving, you continue to change lives, one skill at a time, proving that when we invest in people, the returns are immeasurable.

Thank you!
