Today, we celebrate Gabriel Obwoya, a shining example of the resilient, hardworking, and generous spirit that defines the Ugandan people.

And you had a part in his amazing story!

You empowered Gabriel to help many other Ugandans get marketable skills.

Your support has nurtured Gabriel’s innate talents, transforming him into a powerful force for positive change in Gulu.

Gabriel’s story is one of determination and an entrepreneurial spirit that refuses to be dimmed by circumstances. Even before encountering Empowering Ugandans, Gabriel’s thirst for knowledge and his desire to help others were evident.

As a security guard at the Mission House, he displayed remarkable initiative. When Yvonne started sewing classes in the garage, he secretly began listening and learning. Observing from the outside, he would absorb the lesson and practice in the garage after all the ladies left! Passionate and resourceful, he did this for a few months before he caught Yvonne's eye.

She recognized his potential and began nurturing his skills. Gabriel thrived. He took on more complex projects, absorbing every lesson with enthusiasm. His rapid progress and innate ability to teach others didn’t go unnoticed.

Thanks to the support of the Empowering Ugandans giving community, Gabriel was given the opportunity to unlock his full potential.

His transformation from an eager student to a skilled craftsman was remarkable, and soon he was asked to take on the role of head instructor. This position not only validated Gabriel’s expertise but also allowed him to empower other resilient Ugandans, helping them discover their own worth and develop marketable skills.

Gabriel’s journey showcases the character traits so often seen in the Ugandan people – resilience in the face of adversity, a strong work ethic, and a deep-seated desire to lift others up.

“I am helping people do more than get a job, I am helping them to create jobs with Empowering Ugandans,” he says.

With your help, Gabriel has found his voice and discovered his worth. He stands proud, secure in his abilities, and bold in his vision for the future. His transformation from a job-seeker to a job-creator shows the impact of your generosity and the effectiveness of the Empowering Ugandans program.
