Village women gathered for a sewing workshop led by Shirley Moran and myself. Starting with fewer than 25 participants, each woman received a sewing kit hand-made by the Raincross Quilt Guild(RQG) members. Their generosity knew no bounds—they made 140 kits for our workshops in Northern Uganda!
Word spread fast, and our group swelled to over 50 attendees. Huge thanks to RQG whose kindness made this possible.
We taught the ladies basic hand-sewing skills and then led them through making a purse.
Here is the magnificent shout-it-from-the-mountaintop news- The workshop changed the women of Nalidi's outlook and they have taken action to change their lives and future.
The day after the workshop, I received this from Edward Mosingi a leader in the village:
Because you care, women in Nalidi have taken your initiative to another level!
They started Nalidi Women Empowerment Project that runs on a theme of eradicating poverty among women!!
They are ready to use their manipulative skills to end poverty!’
To our Empowering Uganda family:
Isn’t that cool? Don’t you feel good?
This is the fruit of your support! Isn’t it wonderful to see immediate, tangible results?
When I say 'you,' I mean everyone who has contributed to our mission—whether it’s been through encouragement, helping with packing, giving rides to LAX, sewing, purchasing items from our Amazon wish list, assisting with book drives, donating used phones, organizing beads, sponsoring library furniture, dropping off sewing supplies, and of course, providing financial support.
We are blessed with a large family of generous and kind-hearted people standing alongside us.
Thank you!
