Nine years ago a chain of events was set in motion that would transform Robert Oyoo’s life forever. What began as a chance encounter has blossomed into a story of hope, perseverance, and the impact of the Empowering Ugandans giving community.
Robert’s journey with Empowering Ugandans began when he drove for some guests he had never met. Little did he know that these guests, Papa Jeff and Mamma Yvonne Weinstein, would become instrumental in his life’s transformation.
“I drove from Gulu to Entebbe, never having met them, and drove for them for two weeks,” Robert recalls. “On that visit, they came to my home, and my wife and children entertained them. It was then that Papa Jeff and Mamma Yvonne took me in as their son.”
Shortly after, Robert faced significant challenges. His wife left him with their children. Work was scarce, and providing for his family became increasingly difficult. It was in this moment of desperation that the Weinsteins offered some help.
Through the generosity of donors like you, Empowering Ugandans was able to provide Robert with the resources he needed to care for his children. This support went beyond mere financial assistance; it offered hope and a path forward.
“For nine years, Empowering Ugandans has helped me survive and keep my children fed, clothed, and educated,” Robert shares gratefully. “I don’t know how I could ever pay them back for the help I have received. They have truly loved me with the love of God. It has changed my life.”
Recognizing the importance of sustainable change, Papa Jeff and Momma Yvonne invested in Robert’s future by helping him get skills training. Last year, with the help of donors like you, Robert began studying to operate a construction excavator – a high-paying, skilled job that promises to transform his economic situation.
“Now I have completed the training and am looking forward to a new career thanks to Empowering Ugandans,” Robert beams. “My future is exciting now because I have learned a skill that makes me worth a lot of money.”
The impact of the Empowering Ugandans giving community extends beyond Robert to his six children as well. His oldest daughter is now studying nursing at university, and his other children are doing well in school too.
Robert’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact we can have when we come together. As he looks to the future with hope and excitement, planning to buy his own home and support his children through university, we see the tangible results of your support.
Together, we’re not just changing individual lives – we’re building a stronger, more empowered Uganda, one person at a time. Thank you for being an essential part of this journey.
