Stitching Hope, Restoring Sight: Jamilah Watmon’s Empowering Journey

Your giving provided sight-saving surgery for Jamilah Watmon.

Because of donors like you in the Empowering Ugandans giving community, lives like Jamilah’s are being rewritten every day.

Hers is a narrative of hope, resilience, and the incredible changes that can unfold when donors respond to community needs.

When Jamilah Watmon first locked eyes with Momma Yvonne, she couldn’t have imagined how that moment would change her life. “Her smile was wonderful,” Jamilah recalls, her own face lighting up at the memory.

As co-pastor of Adjumani Bible Community Church alongside her husband Patrick, Jamilah had long witnessed the struggles of women in her congregation. Many grappled with the harsh realities of survival, often unable to afford school fees for their children. It was a cycle of hardship that seemed unbreakable - until Empowering Ugandans stepped in with a solution as simple as it was powerful: Sewing machines.

“Empowering Ugandans donors purchased three sewing machines for training our ladies,” Jamilah explains. These machines became the cornerstone of a monthly training program, where women learned to create pillowcases, bags, purses, and quilts. More than just objects, these items represented newfound hope and potential income for families in need.

But the Empowering Ugandans’ giving community’s impact on Jamilah’s life would soon become deeply personal. When excruciating pain in her left eye threatened her vision, Jamilah faced a daunting challenge. The necessary surgery was far beyond her means, and the prospect of losing her sight loomed large.

It was in this moment of crisis that the true depth of Empowering Ugandans’ donors shone through. “When some donors from Empowering Ugandans learned about it, they sent the funds for the surgery. This was an answer to our prayers. God provided for us through them.”

The successful surgery marked a turning point. “After the surgery, my sight began to improve, and I could see clearly again,” Jamilah beams. “I could see again.”

Jamilah’s story shows the Empowering Ugandans’ giving community’s multifaceted approach to transformation. From equipping women with marketable skills to addressing urgent personal needs.

As Jamilah continues her pastoral work with her husband, she has a renewed vigor and clear vision. Her journey is a story of the power of compassion in action. It’s a reminder that true empowerment often begins with seeing - truly seeing - the needs of others and responding with both heart and hands.

Jamilah’s restored sight is more than a personal victory; it’s a beacon of hope for the entire Adjumani community. As she leads with renewed clarity, her story inspires others to envision a brighter future - one where challenges are met with unwavering support and innovative solutions.

Together, generous folks like you, and the Empowering Ugandans giving community continue to weave a tapestry of change, stitching hope and restoring vision across Uganda, one life at a time.

Thank you!

Jeff & Yvonne
